Its the way they won gold that is important…

CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS now the World Team Champions and to Jess Fox the individual World Champion.

When I reflect back on my training sessions with Jess Fox, Ali Borrows and Ros Lawrence all I remember is laughter… There was soo much fun in those session and some big challenges too. Each was focused and really wanted to be training.

I have watched Jess grow up through the later part of my own career. She was always at races, always smiling with her sister Noeime. Sitting on the river bank watching, reading magazines or catching up with homework. Both sisters are completely un-intimidated by the reputation of World Champions and the Olympic medalists they mix with, to them they are just people on the river bank to talk to.  The competition venues were an extension of home while they patiently waited for their parents to finish coaching….

Maybe this is the reason why Jess is so successful, she is relaxed and having fun even in the most pressured moments because she is comfortable and ‘at home’….

Maybe this enables her to keep an outside perspective of the big picture, which is the real challenge for many athletes…

If you live local you will see the girls training at Penrith Whitewater Stadium, but I would give them a few weeks off first.
